Guilt

The dictionary defines guilt as “an awareness of having done wrong or committed a crime, accompanied by feelings of shame and regret.” This awareness can be on our minds often, and follow us around on a daily basis. We know who and what we are, and we are not happy with it.
If we are sensitive to the promptings of our conscience we are reminded of the little white lie, the half-truths, the word play designed to hide the truth.
We know that we have stolen, lusted, cheated, and now we try to hide who we really are.
Unable to face the reality we seek solace in a bottle of alcohol, or pills.
Tricked into thinking that these addictions help to relieve the guilt we indulge ourselves just seeking to forget and escape.
Two facts need to be pointed out here.
The first is that everyone has stolen, cheated, lusted you name it. You are not alone.
The way that you are dealing with it is why you are reading these lines now.
You want to know what the Bible says?
It says that everyone has done these things and continues to do them. You are not hiding anything from God, and neither are they.
The second thing you need to know is that the guilt you feel is simply because you and everyone else are guilty.
Some people can live with guilt a lot more comfortably than others. The conscience they have has been hardened to the point that nothing they do wrong really bothers them any more.
You my friend are different. You feel the guilt of the lifestyle you are walking in and try to sooth it by continuing in an addiction rather than coming to the light and relieving that guilt the way that God intended.
That is the beauty of this whole process.
We are guilty- God knows it. Rather that try to escape it we need to come to the God who created us and has a design for us and confess our guilt to Him.
The Bible tells us that He is faithful and just to forgive us.
Do you hear that?
God has made a way to deal with the guilt and we have chosen to try to hide it and escape it rather than just coming out to Him and admitting that Yes, we are guilty.
Now, once we have done that it says He forgives us.
Do you know how important that is?
We don’t have to try to hide it or drown it. It has been forgiven us and we can carry on in the knowledge that, yes, I am not perfect, I am never going to be, in this life, but God is working in me and I no longer need to deal with it the way I have been.
That brings true and lasting change to a life. The guilt is gone, and we pick our self up. God dusts us off, and we start over. A fresh start, leaving behind the very source of guilt that has plagued us, our addiction.
That is the purpose of guilt. It is to drive us to God and seek His forgiveness, admitting that He is the creator and we are the creature, very much in need of Him.
Look to other places on this website and you will find more of God’s plan for your life and scriptures to back it up.
Carry on my friend!
