An important learning for all of us who are recovering from a seemingly hopeless condition. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO DRINK OR USE, RIGHT NOW! You don’t have to hurt yourself or others today. Concentrate on the moment! Make every moment you need to, a now moment. You are OK right now. The Lord is with you and in charge of the rest of it. Not you or me. Just trust that the Lord is much better at orchestrating our future than we are. For a brief while, you may need to remind yourself of the person you were before meeting and accepting the Lord. But don’t wallow in it. You are changing into a new creation. Truly, let God do for you, what you haven’t been able to do for yourself. We put ourselves into his care and our lives begin to get better. One step at a time!

    THE PLAN: If you want it!

    a. Find some place to go to meetings, find Christian people with whom you can identify with. Go to as many as you need, in order to not drink or use in between. (church based, AA, NA, etc)

    b. On a daily basis, in the morning, get on your knees and ask your Father to relieve you of your addiction or Bondage. Say please and mean it. We suggest you say your Third Step prayer every morning.

    c. Have a list of people who are in recovery for the same problems, if you can. Have the phone numbers handy at all times. If you feel weak, they may have the strength. Please use that phone, they understand or they wouldn’t have given you their phone #. They’ve been there.

    d. Get a Christian sponsor. That’s a willing someone, who can lead you through the recovery steps and answer your questions about how to do the next best thing. They work, trust them.

    e. We have assumed that you are already in a recovery program. If you aren’t, we seriously recommend it. Find them in the phone book or go talk to a Pastor. If they don’t have a group that meets at their church they can give you sound advice. The important thing is to do it. Start with Step one.

    f. Every night, back on your knees and pray. If you aren’t used to it, or don’t know how, ask the Lord to teach you. He will eventually, Guaranteed! Thank him for your blessings during the day. Ask him to search your heart, and to show you if you wronged any one so you can make amends.

    g. As soon as you are ready, find a bible study or church.    READ your bible every day, in addition to your Recovery book. (i.e. the Big Book) The Bible is supernatural spiritual food for the heart and soul. It's the word of God, and most of all step recovery programs were taken from it. The Beatitudes (which means blessings) in Matthew 5, 6, & 7, the Books of John (ch. 3-13) and James, in the new Testament, were the foundational teachings that those in the original A.A. used to conceive of our beautiful program.

Please put the Third Step Prayer and Serenity Prayer on your heart. Get to know them real good. They are promised to do for you what they have done for the millions before you. We come into recovery with all kinds of special problems. The sooner we accept the fact that we are not unique, the sooner we start to get well. God’s loves each and every one of us the same. You deserve it too.

    DON’T DRINK OR USE, GO TO MEETINGS, LEARN TO GET ON YOUR KNEES AND TALK TO YOUR FATHER IN HEAVEN. We’ll be praying for you! There are many of us that have been down this same path.--------to freedom!

    An Oxymoron! It is the opinion of ThirdStep.org that loneliness and seclusion can be killers. Please do not let the internet be a replacement for human contact and meetings. There are dangers, as well as wonderful benefits, to this great medium. Isolation is not healthy. God wants you to learn how to live with your fellow man. Please get a real home group, where live people will get to know you and give you a real hug. Make a friend to go to meetings with. It may save both your lives. Spending too much time on the internet while first getting sober or clean is not a good thing. Recovery happens when two people talk and seek God.

    OUR MISSION IS TO POINT THE WAY TO THE TRUTH! JESUS SAVES! He alone is the eternal answer. Follow Him and your path will become straight and smooth. We all have learned this. Because we couldn’t by ourselves, we MADE A DECISION to put our lives and will into the care of the one who can, the Lord Jesus Christ. The Son of God and the Son of Man! He alone knows the path out. Don’t drink or use, go to meetings for recovery, and use your knees to learn how to pray.
